Reader Has Already Had Valentine’s Day Ruined
Turns out you don’t have to be a famed restaurateur like Drew Nieporent to get bad service at the Cafe at Country. A reader saw our post on that debacle the other day and tells us that he became “nervous” — apparently, he’d made a reservation there for a Valentine’s Day breakfast with a “friend.” His fears, it turns out, were not unfounded.
Here’s what he told us:
I got there this morning and ordered an omelette and an almond croissant. There were only three other tables in the café. It took 25 minutes for our food to come! They brought the check and added an 18% gratuity to it automatically.
Damn those automatic 18 percent tips — on a two-person table, no less! So how’d it all shake out? “I complained to the manager, who then comped our food and the gratuity,” the loyal reader tells us. “I knew I should have made a reservation elsewhere.” Even if it weren’t Valentine’s Day, our hearts would go out to you.
