Community Board 4’s licensing committee met last night to again consider the curious case of the Butter boys’ new project 1OAK. The nitty-gritty on this one: The club’s space is licensed by the SLA to hold a piano bar (probably the plans of a previous tenant); Sartiano and Akiva have now submitted an alteration request reflecting their new plan for a restaurant. The request was met with a 4-4 deadlock that will be mulled over by full community board on December 5 — meaning the club won’t be opening quite as soon as we had hoped.

Meanwhile, another club called Touch was supposed to open tomorrow at 240 West 52nd Street between Eighth Avenue and Broadway, complete with music by Rev Run and Cassidy. (For those who find amusement in such things as cheesy bar/club names, Touch is in the space that was formerly Float, not that you or we really remember that joint). Alas, plumbing problems have pushed the opening back to November 29 — troubling, as the owners (who mysteriously won’t give up their names, which is always a good sign) must’ve lost a lot of money on hard-stock velour invites they sent out for tomorrow. The question we know you're asking: Will this place change the face of New York nightlife the way Richie Akiva has promised 1OAK will? We don’t know, but we do hear it will have a bar that will change colors (and change the color of the room) when touched. Get it? Touch? Man, the future of nightlife is so bright that, uh, we're begrudgingly wearing shades.
