Jennifer LeRoy: drawn with a poison pen in new
novel.Photo: Getty Images
Jennifer LeRoy, the young, controversial owner of
Tavern on the Green, is not having a great month in the media. First, the
Times wrote in embarrassing detail about a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former employee. Now, she’s the main character in a new, as-yet-unpublished
Devil Wears Prada–style roman à clef, according to "Page Six." Her former assistant, Jennifer Falk, paints the LeRoy character as an irresponsible spendthrift (“Oh, American Express has to be paid monthly? But I have to have a new bag. It's only $1,200. Just get it for me and have the restaurant pay for the whole bill again this month”) and man-eater (she prefers “boys. She didn't go for men.…It was almost always line cooks and sous-chefs from the restaurant.…They'd hang out at her apartment all day, living for free…and having gifts lavished upon them — leather jackets, guitars, whatever they wanted”). LeRoy smacked back at Falk, telling "Page Six," "I'm so glad I have had better success selling
Tavern on the Green: 150 Recipes for Good Times, [which will be] on shelves this holiday season, than Ms. Falk has had with her proposed novel about me and my family. As always, I wish Jennifer well." The high road! We can't wait to read the book.
