Breaking: Waverly Inn’s John DeLucie Confirmed In at Charles

Les Deux Gamins? Not anymore it ain't.
Les Deux Gamins? Not anymore it ain’t.

Fall Previews are surfacing, but we have yet to read much about Charles, a restaurant soon to occupy the DOH-shuttered Les Deux Gamins space at 243 W. 4th. Street in the West Village. And yet, according to the Cut’s Spring 2009 Fashion Week Party Guide, the venue will host Purple magazine’s party on September 7. As the Cut rightly notes, “Purple is the coolest fashion magazine out. Plus, current cover girl Kate Moss may stop by.” Other predicted guests? “Olivier Zahm, photographers, stylists, models galore.” Given Purple’s knack for sniffing out “It” places (the Beatrice Inn shortly after it opened, for instance), and the rumor that a Waverly Inn chef is involved, why haven’t we heard more about Charles? Anyone have the inside dope? Charlie — call us! Update: Some sidewalk pounding confirms that indeed John DeLucie will be head consulting chef at the restaurant, which is expected to open in a few weeks (a look inside revealed a tin ceiling, new Art Deco light globes, and fresh paint on the walls). The designer is Architecture at Large, which also worked with the Anchor and Charlotte Ronson.

Correction: We’ve now gotten official word that John DeLucie is a consulting chef at the restaurant and has brought in John McAllister, formerly of the Soho Grand, to head up the kitchen. The menu is presumed to be “American seasonal.”
