Slice to ‘Vice’: Get Your Pizza Facts Straight

Food rankings usually stir up a bit of controversy (we called out the Observer for its wonky wine-bar top 10 just last month), but Slice seems to have taken personal offense to the Vice pizza guide. Today, Adam Kuban posted a diatribe from Scott Pizza Tour Wiener: They say Grimaldi's has been one of the best for 1,000,000 years? I understand hyperbole, but it's a common misconception that the spot is one of the oldest in the city. It opened in 1990...I was watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1990. Papa John's was already three years old. Whoa, not sure that the Ninja Turtles reference adds credibility here, but it sounds like Vice is getting burned. This is a follow-up to Slices attack on Wednesday that the magazine doesnt even know the difference between a coal-oven pie and a gas-fired one. Weiners right about the pizzeria's age, but maybe the writer was referencing Patsy Grimaldis history making pies at the original Patsy's Pizzeria in Harlem, or maybe Grimaldis has just nailed down the old-school look. Either way, if print magazines plan to spotlight one food, editors might want to assign the story to an obsessive blogger.
