Former Hyperion editor Will Schwalbe has launched a new site, Cookstr, that’s described as “a chef-based recipe search that provides recipes from cookbooks written by over 200 of the top chefs and cookbook authors, such as Mario Batali, Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Alice Waters, Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert, Daisy Martinez, powered by a sophisticated search engine.” The goal, make no mistake, is to sell cookbooks — 13.9 million of which, the Times reports, were sold last year. No doubt the site will be popular, but if it’s recipes from New York City chefs you’re looking for (without the cookbook plugs), you can always turn to our overflowing cornucopia of a database, which allows you to search by name and sort by cuisine, chef, main ingredient, and so on (how’s that for sophisticated!). Did we mention we have 127 Thanksgiving recipes?
