Rainbow Room Safe for This Month, Caffe on the Green Not So Much

As expected, the Ciprianis have filed a lawsuit against their landlord and are seeking $1.8 million in damages, the Post reports. That should offset those tax-evasion charges! Per a judge’s order, the Rainbow Room will stay open until at least January 27. Not as fortunate is Caffe on the Green, which closed after seventeen years, after the city comptroller questioned whether the management was underreporting taxes. The owner of the restaurant in Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s former Queens home was said to be on a law-enforcement list of “made” members of the Gambino family, and owed the city $120,000. Management has denied both charges and blasted the city for laying off its workers, but on February 1, the company behind Famous Famiglia Pizzeria will take over the space.
