In the magazine this week, Adam Platt collides with the “Willy Wonka flamboyance” at Fishtail by David Burke. But at least Platt prefers it to the Oak Room, which gives him the creeps and costs too much money. In this week’s openings, Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld highlight an Italian bakery called Farinella that serves four-foot-long pies, and look for Scandinavian flavors at White Slab Palace. The Robs also fight the cold by rounding up five warming dishes that will see you through till spring. But if you only have time for a beverage, you can at last get a hot coffee to go from Porto Rico Importing Company at the Essex Street Market. If you prefer to warm yourself with wine, the Strategist suggests four New York vintages. You can pair your pick with Felidia chef Fortunato Nicotra’s Frittelle di Bianchetti, a recipe that uses the larval offspring of sardines and anchovies.
