What to Eat at Two Boots Tavern, Now Pouring on the Lower East Side

Yesterday, as planned, Two Boots LES quietly reopened as Two Boots Tavern. The big difference: The front counter has been replaced by a modest bar doling out four tap beers, a variety of bottles (naturally, Abita and Turbodog are on offer), and the hard stuff. Behind it are two large flat-screen TVs, with another one on a mustard-painted wall where theres also some Mets memorabilia and some lantern-like sconces (the lighting is, of course, a little lower). If you look hard, youll find a few items of Yankees paraphernalia, too apparently owner Phil Hartmans first move to appease Yanks fans. In fact, hes having a mural painted that will include various local sports legends in the meantime, another wall painting shows pie namesakes The Dude et al., and neighbor Luis Guzmn has made it onto the painted menu. The food on offer is pretty much the same, with the addition of bar snacks like spinach-and-artichoke dip, hot wings, and super-spicy pigs-in-blankets made with andouille sausage and served with mustard and ketchup.
