A quick update now from the land of Keith McNally and Minetta Tavern, subject of a Frank Bruni rave review last week. A fun, and plausible, rumor circulated last week that he wept upon hearing that his newest restaurant — “almost everything on [the menu] tastes good,” according to our man Platt; “the best steakhouse in the city,” declares Bruni — had been awarded an enviable three stars. “It’s a complete lie that I cried when Minetta Tavern received 3 stars,” McNally told us today in an unsolicited e-mail. “I only cry when other restaurants receive 3 stars.” If you’re wondering, based on a call at post time: Two for Eight? “No, but we can do 11:30.”
