What to Eat

Today in Fried Chicken (and Waffles!): Café Shane, Lee Brothers, and Hog Pit’s Brunch

We recently noticed a banner outside of Café Shane in Prospect Heights trumpeting a new chicken-and-waffles dish. Turns out it’s been offered as a special for some time, but you know who did just add chicken and waffles, via a new “Southern brunch”? The Hog Pit! Brunch is on Saturdays and Sundays from noon till 4 p.m., and the menu is below. All items come with a side of corn bread with honey, home fries, coffee or tea, and choice of one Bloody Mary or a mimosa. And finally in chicken news, the Lee Brothers are returning for another Midnight Fried Chicken Party this year — a Book Expo America after-party in anticipation of their November publication of Simple Fresh Southern. It’s invite-only, but if you’re dying for a boiled-peanuts fix, don’t despair — we hear they’re also planning something for the New York City Wine & Food Festival.
