After Rare Bar & Grill’s Bleecker Street location reopened after a fire, we checked in with Douglas Boxer to see how things are going with his burger joint’s next location at the Wyndham Hotel at West 26th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Boxer tells us construction starts this week, and by October or November, the restaurant will open with a 3,000-square-foot dining room, 1,000-square-foot lobby bar, and (the pièce de résistance) a 3,000-square-foot rooftop that will serve light fare such as mini-burgers year-round. The menu will be similar to Rare’s location at the Shelburne Murray Hill, but the look will be more modern. Meanwhile, Boxer says the Bleecker Street location won’t necessarily close, but he is entertaining offers for the space — he’s now focusing exclusively on hotels, where the revenue stream includes room service, catering, and bar traffic.
