Spawn of Macao: Ward III and Pod Café Open for Drinks and Dinner

We’ve just gotten word that Michael Neff of Macao Trading Co. will open his cocktail lounge, Ward III, on Thursday night. And here’s news of another Macao–Employees Only spinoff: Devon and Grace Gilroy, the son and daughter of Macao owner Billy Gilroy, have just opened a modest outdoor-indoor café in midtown’s Pod hotel (Papa Gilroy is backing this venture as well). Grace, who is 25, was previously a manager at two of Sean MacPherson’s places (B Bar and the Maritime), and Devon, who is 23, trained at Chanterelle before moving to the kitchen of A Voce (he’s the one who connected David Waltuck with Macao). The two are getting their coffee from La Colombe, their breads from Brooklyn’s SCRATCHbread, and other ingredients from local farms. When dinner service starts July 1 (when the beer-and-wine license is expected), don’t expect fancy E.O.-style cocktails. This is more of a casual hang — it opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m., and the dinner and lunch menus will initially be the same. See them below.
