Nawlins Invasion: Lucy Browne’s Opens, Two Boots Serves Beignet Ice Cream

This is hilariously timed, given that it’s Bastille Day, but Steak Frites has now undergone its transformation into the “wholesome American eatery” we told you about earlier and will reopen as Lucy Browne’s tomorrow. (There’s a semi-private opening party tonight, from now till 10 p.m., featuring free pints of Mermaid Pilsner and a ragtime band, but be warned the hostess is toting a list of those who RSVP’d to info@lucybrownesny.com.) As you can see from the menu below, there are some New Orleans dishes such as an oyster po’ boy and shrimp and grits (and of course there are meatballs). Which leads us to the very exciting news that the Bleecker Street location of Two Boots has just started serving NOLA-inspired ice cream made from 16 percent butterfat from the milk of upstate cows. Specialty flavors include the one we’re trying as soon as we leave work, beignet (see what Momofuku’s doughnut soft-serve has wrought?) as well as bananas Foster, Community Coffee coffee (another tempting one — flavored with New Orleans’ favorite coffee), Tortoni, and Coconut Caramel Cup. There are also flavors from Max & Mina’s: Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Pecan Praline.
