Village Closes

After nearly ten years in business, longtime Greenwich Village staple Village announced this afternoon that it’ll close after dinner service on Saturday night. “The landlord sought to renew the lease at double the former rent, which the current business environment would not allow us to do. We were honored to work with our wonderful staff, and to serve our exceptional clientele. We thank them gratefully for 9 amazing years,” Chef and owner Stephen Lyle said in a press release. As for future plans for the chef, nothing is set as of yet. With the closing of Joe’s Jr. just a few weeks ago — and now this poorly timed rent increase — July has claimed two neighborhood staples in a three-block stretch.
