Schoolgirlish Donut Burger Makes This Is Why You’re Fat Cover

Jessica Amason and Richard Blakeley have unveiled the cover of their book, This Is Why You’re Fat: Where Dreams Become Heart Attacks (out in October and now available for presale), and while the cover is beautiful (heart-stoppingly so!), we were a little surprised to see the donut burger front and center. Isn’t this kind of old hat? The Gateway Grizzlies started selling it at their baseball games three years ago, and while this one is more blechtacular because it uses two donuts as buns instead of one sliced in half, it’s not quite as over-the-top as Paula Deen’s Lady’s Brunch Burger, which incorporates a patty, bacon, cheese, and an egg. You really want to be one-upped by Paula Deen, guys? Then again, unlike the website, the book is rife with recipes (for the Porkgasm, to begin with), so perhaps the publisher wanted to put something you’d actually maybe want to eat on the cover. And, of course, front-and-center burgers on a plain background are a publishing meme of sorts (see The Hamburger: A History and Hamburger: A Global History). In any case, congrats to the donut burger.
