First Look at Yerba Buena Perry, Opening Next Week
Photo: Melissa Hom
On Wednesday, Julian Medina will add Yerba Buena Perry to the portfolio that already includes one of the best restaurants to open in the past year, the East Village’s Yerba Buena, as well as Toloache. Designer Welly Lai has gussied up the former Matador space to evoke fifties Havana (think Socialista but with a touch of modernity thanks to white leather banquettes, an Italian marble bar, etc.). As with Yerba Buena, the food is a mixture of Latin American and Spanish, and the cocktails (created by a mixologist who has worked at PDT and Freemans and goes by the name Cervantes) incorporate Latin ingredients such as the restaurant’s namesake herb. Wines are from Spain, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and California. Hours of operation: 5 p.m. till 11:30 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday, and till 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Weekend brunch is from 11:30 a.m. till 3 p.m. Have a look at the dining room, some of the dishes, and the menu.
