First Look at Mercat Negre, Opening With Rooftop Garden Next Week

Next Thursday, Mercat opens its much-anticipated Catalan restaurant in Williamsburg, at one point called Cap I Pota but now called Mercat Negre. Unlike Mercat which has recently been a revolving door of visiting toques, there’ll be an executive chef in the open kitchen here, Oriol Sala Colomer, a Ferran Adria student who previously headed catering operations at Michelin-starred Can Jubany in Spain. His dishes were inspired by his native Girona region and will incorporate ingredients like tarragon, cabbage, hot chiles, and exotic vegetables grown on a rooftop garden that doubles as a twenty-table terrace. Brunch will be served from noon till 4 p.m. on weekends, with dinner served from 5:30 p.m. till midnight, and lunch also in the works. Take a look at the menu and the gorgeous rustic-industrial interior.
