What to Eat at the Turkish Festival in Prospect Park This Sunday

If you want a fun education in Turkish food beyond the usual kebabs, get thee to the Turkish Festival in Prospect Park this Sunday from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. In addition to displays of Turkish art and folk dancing there’ll be — yes! — food from restaurants such as Masal Café, Istanbul Café, Istanbul Park, Ali Baba, Dervish, and Turkish Kitchen. Perhaps even more exciting: The festival’s organizers tell us that home cooks from the Turkish Cultural Center’s Women Society will be hawking dishes made from family recipes. We’re so excited about this that we’ve acquired the festival’s menu, below. It’s in Turkish, but we’ve added links to photos and descriptions of the dishes wherever possible. You can also find information at the official website, and if you prefer to celebrate in Manhattan, attend the street festival on 41st Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue on October 4.
