Closer Look at Juliet, the Debut Effort From Todd English and Jon B

Let’s face it: It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for Todd English (whose name is back in the gossip pages today) or Jon B (whose club Greenhouse was recently sued for racial discrimination). But they’re hoping their fortunes turn when they open Juliet Supperclub in Chelsea on Friday. The Department of Buildings has hit Citrine with a vacate order, and Bungalow 8 is undergoing a refresh, so it’s as good a time as any for Juliet to become the club of the moment (er, at least as far as Chelsea is concerned).

As you'll see, the vibe here is similar to Greenhouse’s (same designer), and with Mark Barker of Lotus and Artan Gjoni of Norwood overseeing things, you can expect a doorman to be in full force after dinner service ends at 11 p.m. The party scene was in full effect during last week's pre-opening festivities, when a roving electric guitarist accompanied the D.J. (he’ll swap duties with an electric violinist). When the kitchen is operating at 100 percent within a couple of weeks (among other things, they’re waiting on the installment of a state-of-the-art gyro machine), small plates and shareable platters will lean heavily in the Mediterranean direction: think tuna tabouleh, fried haloumi cheese, fattoush salad, lamb dumplings, and shawarma. Among the libations, expect a spicy grapefruit tequila drink called the “Full Frontal.” And now, check out our full-frontal slideshow.
