Will New Yorkers Be Phanatical for Philly Phro-Yo?

The Series isn’t over yet, but the City of Brotherly Love has already taken New York. A couple of weeks ago, Philly-based Phileo quietly replaced Cali-based Yogurtland at 267 Bleecker Street in the West Village. Like Yogurtland, Phileo offers self-serve fro-yo by the ounce (at 49 cents per), and the toppings are nearly identical. Flavors are slightly different, and currently include peach, tart raspberry, tart plain, tart strawberry, tart lychee, tart blueberry, cupcake batter, cookies and cream, snickerdoodle, peanut butter, taro, cappuccino, vanilla, chocolate, pumpkin, and strawberry.

Should the Phillies win tonight, and you happen to be a fan like the individual above (who may or may not be your Grub Street editor), you may want to celebrate with a cheesesteak at Wogie’s (which, incidentally, has perilously agreed to throw a staff party for Brother Jimmy’s should the Phils lose), and then walk over to Phileo for dessert. Though, really, enough of this fro-yo stuff — when will New York get another Capogiro’s outpost, the excellent Philly shop that serves up gelato on brioche, in flavors such as Amish sweet milk and spiced apple cider? (The stand at Rockefeller Center was discontinued this summer.)
