Diner’s Journal brings two big stories from Central Park today. The first one is about, you guessed it, Tavern on the Green: A judge has granted the city’s request that a federal judge, not a bankruptcy judge, determine who gets to keep the supposed $19 million name that Jennifer LeRoy is accused of “fraudulently” obtaining. That’s all well and good, but here’s the bigger news: The Parks Department has picked Le Pain Quotidien to take over the concession stand in Sheep Meadow formerly known as Sheep Meadow Café.
The Belgian chain beat out Dovetail, which was also vying for the space, and will spend as much as $1 million building a café that will seat 80 people indoors and out, and hopefully serve organic beer and wine.
