Food & Wine’s January issue features a requisite 2010 trend report, and kudos to the editors for picking some offbeat categories. Among them: artisanal breakfast ingredients, chefs fetishizing butter, fancy takeout containers (see: MacBar), food tours of Latin America, and higher-quality frozen hors d’oeuvres. Like trends compiled by Epicurious and Restaurants & Institutions, Food & Wine expects an uptick in sustainability and highbrow fast food via farm dinners and hot-dog spots like Bark. Sick of predictions? In another feature, Frank Bruni accounts how he terrorized Le Bernardin sommelier Aldo Sohm by pretending to be extra picky about wine. The magazine drops next week, and the stories will post online by Wednesday.
