Marquee Team Threatens to Open Mammoth Club in Vegas

Marquee owners Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss dropped a bombshell discussing their case study with Harvard Business School students on Tuesday: “We’re negotiating a deal to have another huge project, out in Vegas, which is opening on New Year’s Eve of 2011, with our partners from Lavo. If all goes well, it will be the largest nightclub in the United States and the largest roof deck and hospitality facility in the world,” Strauss told a riveted classroom in response to a question about growing their venue portfolio.

Most interesting to the scholars was the bottle-service concept, particularly during the current recession. Given the high cost of the experience, had the proprietors noticed any dip in revenue? “There are not as many, but bottle customers are still going out and they’re still spending,” replied Tepperberg. “Having three venues [Marquee, Avenue, and soon Lavo] in New York, we’re making sure they have different location options but we can still keep their business in the company.” Added Strauss: “Vegas has been booming. Bottle service this March at [our club] Lavo was up 40 percent from last year. Everyone’s more comfortable now, more confident that it’s not doomsday.”
