The Once and Future Freddy’s

While the Brooklyn Paper pens a capsule history of Freddy’s (it went from being a Prohibition-era “bunker” for execs at the nearby Spalding ball plant, to a cop bar, to a hipster hangout, and there was at one point a bowling alley in the basement), Brownstoner looks to the future. Snooping around the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Union, that site sniffs out two possibilities for the bar’s new location after its good-bye party on Friday: “One is 4th Avenue entrance of Maria’s Mexican Bistro (which is now only operating out of 669 Union Street, around the corner). The other is the grated space at 228 4th Avenue, which is located between two delis.”
