Another Foodie Field Trip: The Maine Event

Anne Saxelby’s Day A-Whey isn’t your only chance to escape for the weekend without missing out on the local food scene. From August 12 to 15, the folks from the Meat Hook and Roebling Tea Room will once again head up to New York City expat Annemarie Ahearn’s coastal Salt Water Farm in Lincolnville, Maine, for sessions in pig butchering, oyster shucking, mozzarella making, pickling, and chicken killing — and if that doesn’t yield enough Flickr content, you’ll also get to forage for mushrooms, pick blueberries, and (for an additional fee) go sailing. The cost is a good $1,500 per person or $2,750 per couple, but there’ll be a pig roast and lobster bake, too, and not only are the cabins equipped with Wi-Fi, but there’s duckpin bowling! (Duck hunting, however, is not an option — as far as we know.)
