Fulton Grand Brings Early Happy Hour to a Parched Clinton Hill

For the eclectic (and sizable) team behind Brooklyn’s 4th Avenue Pub and Washington Commons, opening another cozy beer bar is old hat. Luke McDermott joins the ownership group on its latest project, the Fulton Grand Bar (located on Fulton Street and Grand Avenue) in Clinton Hill. McDermott is the descendant of at least two former bar owners and himself a bartender (at 4th Avenue Pub), so he’s comfortable under the black tin ceiling of the refurbished ex–plumbing supply shop. “We want this to be a neighborhood bar, but don’t want it to come across as trying too hard,” he said about the 70-seat venue. Considering the area’s limited drinking options, they may not have to try at all.

McDermott expects the bar to open at the end of next week, but the thick, irregular wood floor and salvaged wood tables and shelves already give Fulton Grand an established feeling. The bar has a dozen taps and will open with microbrews from Founder’s and Fuller’s London Pride. Like its brethren 4th Avenue and Washington Commons, happy hour ($2 off) at Fulton Grand runs from 3 to 8 p.m. The bar applied for an outdoor-seating permit, which would make Fulton Grand one of the few alfresco drinking joints in Clinton Hill.
