NIMBY Power

Community Board Is Fine With 25 CPW Wine Bar

While NIMBYs have hope in Daniel Squadron’s new bill, bar owners can chalk one up in their column: Despite the fact that the residents of 25 Central Park West (the building that houses A-Rod, Sting, Denzel Washington, and others) hired big-deal lobbyists to block Greg Hunt from opening what he says will be a chill wine bar (and what they fear will be a raging nightclub) in a former Gristedes in the building’s ground floor, the community board voted 22 to 11 to support the enterprise so long as it closes early-ish and Hunt signs a notarized letter agreeing to never put a velvet rope outside (it’s uncertain what the letter says about disco balls). Of course, it’s not over yet — the Westside Independent says lawyers may argue in court that the wine bar (which will include a jazz component) violates zoning laws.
