T.G.I. Friday’s Thinks It Might Get Stuff From the Greenmarket

By now, it’s pretty much a given that if you open a restaurant within a 50-block radius of Union Square, you’re going to tell everyone that you ride your bicycle or Vespa over to the Greenmarket for ingredients. Unless you’re, like, T.G.I. Friday’s. But wait a minute! A press release from the Riese Organization reveals that not only will the new Union Square location feature a $10.95 brunch (it includes a pitcher of mimosas with additional pitchers at $1, which wow, is a pretty sweet deal if you don’t mind brunching at T.G.I. Friday’s), but it is also “anticipating purchasing various items for seasonal specials from the Greenmarket.” That’s right: If you can’t win ‘em over with booze, try winning ‘em over with local iceberg lettuce. Folks, if Edison bulbs officially jumped the shark when Dallas BBQ strung them up, this may be the moment when the word “seasonal” finally came to mean absolutely nothing.
