The Charleston Replaces Free Pizza With Cajun Pop-Up

Last night, before a mechanical-bull injury put an early end to our night out in Williamsburg, we wandered into the Charleston only to discover that the bar no longer offers a free personal pizza with each drink (previously one of the best deals in the city). A sign promised Cajun food from Honeychiles, and now Paper magazine explains just what Honeychiles is: Ex-Humans band members Jesse Crawford and John Martin have teamed up with Jameson Proctor of ’wichcraft and country-rockers the Weight to open a pop-up serving Cajun specialties such as jambalaya, crawfish, and (vegetarian) po’boys (with specials like pheasant and alligator) until 2 a.m. on weeknights and 3 a.m. on weekends. It starts this Thursday. If the Charleston’s blaring metal and punk soundtrack and increasingly tat-crazy clientele prove too much to handle, the bar has a few outdoor tables that are perfect for Bedford Avenue people-watching.
