Tucked away in a former nail salon on Baxter Street, Bluebird Sky has flown more or less off the radar since it opened last month, but it’s worth noting that a mom-and-pop operation has managed to set up shop in an increasingly upscale neighborhood. Actually, this is more of a husband-and-wife production: Longtime Little Chitaly resident Dave Kelly opened the sandwich-and-salad spot with his wife, Alex (who’s running the front of the house while he works his day job as an account manager at Getty Images), and says they plan to “play to the neighborhood” in serving “very simple food made with care.” For now, they’re open for breakfast and lunch only, serving family favorites like his Alex’s peanut butter, banana, and honey sandwich on multigrain. Hardly the stuff to rival Kenmare, but neighborhood early birds who’ve been surviving on coffee from Oro and breakfast burritos from La Esquina finally have alternatives in organic fair-trade coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company and a handful of omelettes.
