Earlier this year, Josh Ozersky took a Bataan Death March–like trip (his words) to Montclair to express his “admiration and respect” for Smashburger’s first Jersey location. (The chain’s patties, smashed against the griddle, have been said to be the model for Bill’s Bar and Burger.) Now Zagat reports that Smashburger is opening another outpost in Hackensack, New Jersey (White Manna territory!). This week you’ll be able to use in-house iPads to try to get freebies — which seems just as weird as the MP3 jukebox at the short-lived Fatburger in Jersey City. Hopefully Smashburger’s digital foray fares better.
