Papaya King Gets Naturally Revitalized, Reopens on Upper East Side

Oh, blessed day: Papaya King’s hiatus was a little longer than anticipated, but you can officially go bananas. The store reopened this morning with a gleaming new glass-encased look. Operator Wayne Rosenbaum tells us his gut renovation included a fifteen-person counter on the Third Avenue side, better wheelchair access, and a wall of photos of PK circa 1932 (also: more than one of unofficial ambassador Anthony Bourdain). The new management also refurbished the original 1937 papaya machines after tracking down the son of the original manufacturer in Queens. New to the menu: breakfast items like sausage and eggs, and a frank of the week that you can help design via Papaya King’s website. Take another look below.
