On Friday, Nick Morgenstern (formerly of the General Greene) opened Goat Town in the space where the lives of Butcher Bay and Seymour Burton were cut short. Itll operate in roughly the same area as East Villagers such as Northern Spy Co. and Back Forty: Some of the seasonal American dishes herbs and vegetables will come from a backyard garden, therell be in-house jarring and pickling, and the rest of the ingredients will be carefully sourced. True to the throwback name Goat Town (Gotham in Anglo-Saxon), theres an emphasis on oysters, as evidenced by $50 and $75 seafood towers.
Youll recall Butcher Bay never managed to cinch a full liquor license (despite suing Community Board 3), so Goat Town has enlisted Leif Huckman (ex-Marlow & Sons) to create wine and beer cocktails such as a Muscadet Amaro cocktail with a red wine float, and a shandy that incorporates lemonade infused with anise-hyssop, mint, and chamomile from the back garden. See former Cookshop chef de cuisine Joel Houghs brunch, dinner, happy hour, and bar menus below, and tour the space via our slideshow.
