Well, our New Year’s plans just solidified. Ruby’s has announced on its Facebook page that it will be having a “HUGE protest” on New Year’s Day, when the Polar Bears traditionally hit the bar post-swim. According to Amusing the Zillion, the Coney 8’s court hearing last week was postponed till January 10; a Gothamist source thinks the court battle will last eight months, though that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be able to open next season.

Yesterday the Post picked up on previous posts about Sodexo, the widely reviled food-service giant, and confirmed with a Zamperla spokesman that it will have a “significant boardwalk presence” next year. As if that’s not depressing enough, the Times has a slideshow of iconic Coney Island buildings that are facing demolition, including the Shore Hotel and the former Faber’s Fascination, where Harpo Marx debuted (the Shore Theater, at least, was just landmarked).
