Naidre’s Upgrades in Park Slope, Gives Way to Maybelle’s Café in Carroll Gardens

Across the street from Brooklyn Farmacy, Naidre’s is closed for good. According to a message on its Facebook page, owner Janice Pullicino moved out last Wednesday because she wants “more quality time in my life, and to be able to focus on bringing our Park Slope cafe to a much higher level of quality in food, service, and coffee.” Indeed, another message on the Naidre’s website indicates the Park Slope location will soon get “in-house baked goods with whole cakes and pies to go, and an upgrade [sic] espresso bar.” So what’s going on with the Carroll Garden’s storefront, which once housed Cammareri’s, the bakery from Moonstruck? We’re told by the new owners that on Thursday, it’ll reopen as Maybelle’s Café, a 30-seat café with a vegetarian-vegan focus.

Brooklyn native Sarah Lovitt tells us she’ll run the front of the house while her husband Ryan Miller mans the kitchen. The couple met in culinary school; Miller went on to chef in Ohio and Louisiana before they moved to New York a year and a half ago. Lovitt says they’ll introduce dinner several months from now, but they’ll first focus on breakfast and lunch: “We’re really trying to do great healthy, hearty soups and salads, a breakfast with organic eggs, and we’re trying to work with local suppliers.” Intelligentsia will go into the Seattle-made Synesso machine, and laptop users can rest assured they’ll be welcome to plug in and take advantage of free Wi-Fi.
