As mentioned, the replacement for Columbus Avenue fixture City Grill is the appropriately named Columbus Tavern, which opened its doors today. Here’s a first look at the space, with its long mahogany bar, big windows looking out onto the avenue, and mirror-paneled walls reflecting clubby wooden booths. Chef Phil Conlon has worked at Café Cluny and Broadway East, and his menu of upscale comfort food misses nary a trend, from the brisket-and-bone-marrow burger to the duck-fat cashews to nachos made with house-fried potato chips. You can enjoy those for lunch and dinner, and the tavern serves till 11 p.m. during the week and 1 a.m. weekend nights. See the full lineup of food and wine below, and take a peek at the space in our slideshow.
