Park Slope’s Nameless Café Opens on Lower East Side and Finally Gets a Name

Two months after Per Inglander and Ronny Kaj opened a coffee shop at 186 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, they still haven’t given it a name (locals call it the “nameless café” or “186,” among other things), but last week they opened a second shop on the Lower East Side, and they’ve decided to properly Christen both establishments. And the name will be …

Konditori! If you’re like, “huh?” it’s what they call coffee shops in Sweden — Per is Swedish, after all (he makes the coco balls himself) and Konditori’s specialty is a medium-roast, Swedish-style house blend. In addition to the daily roasted coffee (served in French presses, if you so desire), there are bagels, muffins, tuna salad, and Mazarin (marzipan tarts). The slightly smaller Lower East Side location is open from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. on weekdays, and they’ll open at 9 a.m. on weekends.
