As soon as Andy Heidel gets the Department of Buildings to sign off, he’ll open Way Station, a Victorian-meets-steampunk drinkery. At that point, “Washington will be ready for a bar crawl,” Heidel says, referring to nearby Prospect Heights bars Washington Commons, Prospect Pond, Half Court, and Minor Arcana. Doctor Who nerds fans will want to drink as much as possible from the specialty cocktail list, the oftener to visit the TARDIS, the blue police call box/time machine from the show, which conceals the bar’s restroom. “Doctor Who fans will be excited to find out that it is bigger on the inside,” Heidel jokes.
The venue will also host live music performances four nights a week, mostly “old-timey” jazz and blues.
