Farmers’ Cabinet Opens Tonight

In what must be one of the quickest restaurant turnarounds in recent memory, The Farmer’s Cabinet, the latest from the team behind Fork & Barrel, Matt Scheller, Matt and Colleen Swartz, will open tonight, just a few short weeks after being first announced. As mentioned here and elsewhere, it will occupy the former Joe Pesce space on Walnut Street and shoot for “rustic American” vibe with it’s menu. Originally it was rumored to be named the Grainery and later the Philadelphia Grain Exchange. The Farmers’ Cabinet name was inspired by a long out of print Philadelphia-based publication, which is where the first printed reference to the word cocktail appeared. And cocktails will be featured prominently. The owners brought in New York cocktail whiz, Damon Dyer to draw up it’s opening cocktail list. Further down the road Farmers’ Cabinet will fire up its tiny two-barrel in-house brewery. Right now Meal Ticket has some photos of the interior and some of its dishes.
