After saying the threat of radiation contamination was “more serious” than initially thought (the Japanese government has banned raw milk from Fukushima Prefecture and spinach from Ibaraki Prefecture), the World Health Organization is now indicating that although radiation levels in food are above the legal limit, they don’t pose an immediate health risk (so CNN reports). Instant noodles are also helping, per the Times. Back here at home, City Room surveys the scene at Geido on Flatbush Avenue and finds that it’s business as usual. Nevertheless, according to a letter from Toshiyuki Kiuchi (brewer of Hitachino and others) that’s reprinted on the blog of Jimmy Carbone of Jimmy’s No. 43, ten sake breweries and five beer breweries have been seriously damaged, and at least one of them was completely washed away.
