When Nur Khan confirmed Don Hill’s death to BlackBook, he told Steve Lewis, “I’m gonna figure out how to put the best motherfucking NYC rock ‘n roll tribute show together for him.” While we wait for that, the nightlife legend’s memorial service is this evening. According to details posted by Redden Funeral Home, it will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 263 Mulberry Street at 6:30 p.m. In the meantime, memories are still being shared online: Peter Davis of Paper recalled Hill as “one of New York nightlife’s most pioneering figures.” Handsome Dick Manitoba told the Post we’ve lost a “piece of an era.” Singer Bebe Buell described Hill’s club to the Times as “a perfect rock ’n’ roll smorgasbord,” and former doorman Thomas Onorato told WNYC that its parties were “game-changers.” And Ramones manager Danny Fields told the Daily News he was “the last of the great hosts of that era.”
