First Look at the Beagle, an East Village Newcomer With a Portland Pedigree
With the Ace Hotel celebrating its second anniversary this weekend, Matthew Piacentini, the co-owner of Clyde Common, the buzzy restaurant inside of the original Ace in Portland, opened a new spot in the East Village earlier this week, in the former Orologio space. Like Clyde Common, the focus is on craft cocktails as well as food; Piacentini was most recently the bar manager at inoteca e liquori bar, and he has hired a colleague from there, Dan Greenbaum (also of John Dory and Brooklyn Social), to create barrel-aged cocktails and hand-cut “super rocks” of ice here. The self-described “produce-driven creative American” menu, which you can see below along with the cocktail menu, will be executed by another Clyde Common alum, Garrett Eagleton, who has also spent time at another couple of Portland standouts, Le Pigeon and Lincoln. Check out the space via our slideshow, and night owls, take note: The Beagle is open from 5 p.m. till 1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and till 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
