Not long after shuttering hot-dog joint Brats: Dog & Wieners to make more room for adjacent Little Cheese Pub, Daniel Angerer and Lori Mason have announced that their Klee Brasserie will become an Austrian heuriger. The couple will close Klee in early July and hope to relaunch by fall as a more casual Austrian wine tavern (for a primer on heurigers, see this Times story from last fall). "Klee's been around for five years. We were kind of ready for it," Mason tells Grub Street. "With the change in the economy, people’s spending habits have changed. They’re not spending as much on wine; check averages have gone down. We decided to go with the grain instead of against it." That'll mean more affordable, casual wines and food: "We're simplifying the menu, simplifying the concept," Mason says. In the process, Klee is clearing out its "multi-award winning wine list" and diners are invited to "make us an offer we can't refuse" on bottles like "Opus One, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Haut Brion, Vega Sicilia Chateau d'Yquem, Joseph Phelps, Sassicaia, Gaja," according to the announcement.
