Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, is pissed at her country for its rise in smokers from 31 percent to 34 percent, despite the ban on cigarettes in public places, which statistically has done nothing but puffed up its nicotine-addicted demographic. Making matters worse, the price of cigs has actually been lowered. Guiliano writes, “Ok, they’ve [sic] been some positive elements: clothes don’t smell like cigarettes, people cough less, my French women friends and I can have wonderful meals in smoke-free dining rooms, some businesses have gained a clientele back, but basically it does not work as insidious elements are in the way (like the price, which is not high enough and has been twisted and actually lowered; shame on those in the government who play these funny dangerous games).” On a lighter note, she likes raspberries avec sardines.
