Just as we’re getting over the news that Starbucks is icing out already-tortured writers who just want to sit at their laptops, drink chai lattes, and refresh Facebook all day, now we have to digest the fact that some innocent caffeine freak found a hidden camera in a Starbucks bathroom stall in Connecticut.
Adding insult to injury, the man got his feelings hurt, too. “Here is a guy that does a good deed and Starbucks looks at me like it’s nothing. Not even a phone call. It hurts,” he tells the Hartford Courant. “I had a little dream that Starbucks would say, ‘Sir, we really appreciate it,’” he said. “Give me a lifetime coffee pass for me and my boys and my girl and a couple of friends.”
The whole thing got us a little paranoid, so we checked in with a few local Starbucks workers on the subject of toilet stalking:
Edward at 150 Varick Street says: “I think it’s an invasion of privacy. Cameras in their bathrooms? No, We don’t even have cameras in the public space here.”
Tasha at 345 Hudson Street says: “That’s horrible, why would they want to see that? Thanks for letting me know. I usually change in the back anyway.”
A worker who prefers to go unnamed at 67 Front Street in Brooklyn says: “I can assure you, anyone can relieve themselves in privacy here. I would know and I would not be cool with that.”
