Peruvian Chef Gastón Acurio Takes on the Tabla Space With La Mar Cebicheria
If you needed proof that Peruvian cuisine really is having a moment, just check out the snazzy digs of chef Gastón Acurio’s La Mar Cebicheria Peruana, opening Tuesday in the cavernous bi-level former Tabla space. Acurio, who is also a Peruvian food-TV star, has 29 restaurants in twelve countries, but this is his first stop in New York. Now he’s betting on our collective appetite for ceviches and the less-familiar tiraditos (essentially: seafood carpaccios), plus the potato dumplings known as causas, and anticuchos (grilled skewered meats). To wash those down: a pisco-based cocktail list and a wine list focused on South American selections. Glimpse the space straight ahead in our slideshow.
