Candy Protesters Will Hit Hershey’s Store Tomorrow

If you were planning to visit the Hershey’s store in Times Square tomorrow (though we have no idea why any non-tourist would do that), look out for a cadre of candy-bar protestors. Members of the Raise the Bar, Hershey! Campaign are planning to gather in front of the store brandishing petitions that demand Hershey do more to combat child labor in the cocoa industry. Evidently child workers and even human trafficking are widespread in chocolate-making, and according to this group, “Hershey’s has done less than other chocolate companies to address these abuses.” Protests are also planned for flagship stores in Niagara Falls and Chicago. What a gooey mess. If you’d rather sign the petition from the comfort of your desk, you can find that here.
