Free-Corkage Tuesdays at Buttermilk Channel; Get Ready for Meat Week

Carroll Gardens: Buttermilk Channel is offering a free corkage service every Tuesday, effective tonight. [Grub Street]
Chelsea: The MUD truck, in collaboration with Artspace, an online market for contemporary art, will be parked in front of Luhring Augustine on Saturday from 1–4 p.m. MUD will provide free cups of coffee to those who stop by; you will also have the chance to enter for a free trip to Art Basel Miami Beach. East Village: La Palapa is holding its El Dia de Los Muertos celebration on November 2 from 6’8 p.m. with dishes made in honor of its own dearly departed residents: W.H. Auden, a former upstairs tenant for 30 years; Leon Trotsky, a printmaker who once owned a workshop in what is now La Palapa’s space. Dishes include blue-corn tamales steamed in a banana-leaf parcel, a “revolution salad,” and Russian empanadas stuffed with potatoes, sweet peas, and chile de arbol salsa. The event, which is in collaboration with PEN International, will also pay tribute to Mexican journalists who have been killed or have gone missing. [Grub Street]

Gowanus:Nachos blog Nachos NY is hosting a Salsa Slam with beers from Brooklyn Brewery on November 6 from 4–7 p.m. Basically, twenty salsas compete for people’s and judge’s favorites, with cash and prizes from the Brooklyn Salsa Company. Soho:To kick off the first annual NYC Meat Week (from November 7 to 12), “Meat with a Twist” unites New York’s finest chefs and mixologists for a cocktail–food pairing party on November 7 from 6–10 p.m. at City Winery. The party will feature ten cocktails paired with ten chef selections of locally grown and sustainable meat, such as duck, lamb, chicken, pork, beef, bison, and ostrich. Tickets can be purchased here.
