Twelve-year-old Hayes Valley restaurant Paul K (199 Gough Street) closed after service yesterday, making way for Rich Table, the new restaurant from co-chef couple Evan and Sarah Rich. Owner Paul Kavouksorian opened his eponymous restaurant in 2000, creating a menu with the Mediterranean influences of his Armenian heritage. They did a brisk brunch business and served the pre-symphony and opera crowds, but the place had been less than full otherwise in recent years and Kavouksorian had been looking to sell. Enter the Riches, who after years working top kitchens in New York and San Francisco are looking to open their own place. As the Riches told Grub Street earlier, they want Rich Table to be boisterous but “low-key and inviting with a heavy focus on the food.” Look for it to open by late summer or fall. [Earlier]
